This year, I've felt a strong need to learn how to stay with something—or certain feelings. Not rejecting, not avoiding, not trying to cover it up with other actions or emotions. Some things, perhaps, are meant to be experienced in this lifetime, and we need to learn how to coexist with them. Let them flow through the body, or keep them within, and carry them as we continue living. The energy spent struggling might not always be necessary.
Tonight, I stayed home and grilled some meat for myself while watching a National Geographic documentary, Best of the World. I chose the episode on New York, and it genuinely moved me. When I think of New York, I think of iconic buildings, museums, and Broadway. But in the documentary, the host Antoni showed us Japanese restaurants, street graffiti, cocktail bars, and the marathon. I saw the inclusivity and vibrancy behind the city, as well as the passion of individuals and groups chasing a sense of "purpose." Ah, life is worth living like this. And this city, this world, has reignited my desire to explore and experience.
